botox for overactive bladder
Botox is a medication derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which produces a toxin that causes a type of food poisoning called botulism. Botulinum toxin is one of the most poisonous substances known to man.
Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine at nerve endings in the muscle. This prevents muscle contraction and relaxes the bladder muscles, allowing the bladder to increase in capacity. This can reduce symptoms such as increased frequency, urgency and incontinence (leaking urine).
